Editor's Note: World Photography Day - The Art of Seeing
Every year on August 19, World Photography Day offers an opportunity to pause and consider the medium we often take for granted: photography.
The roots of the day are commonly traced to 1839, when the French government acquired the rights to the daguerreotype process and made it freely available to the world. Nearly two centuries later, photography has evolved from silver-coated copper plates to digital sensors and cameras carried in our pockets. Yet something essential remains unchanged: the desire to look, to record, and to tell stories through images.
A photograph can preserve a fleeting moment, but its value is not simply in what it records. A compelling photograph can reveal something about a person, a place, or a moment that words alone might not capture. It can preserve memory, connect distant experiences, and invite us to see the world through someone else’s eyes.
At Fotoqrafika, we are interested in what happens beyond the individual frame — how photographs come together to form sequences, bodies of work, and visual narratives. We believe photography is not only about making images, but about learning how to see.
So today, take time to see.
Look back at photographs you have made. Look around at the details you usually pass by. Notice the light, the gestures, the spaces, and the moments that might otherwise disappear unnoticed.
Photography begins with a camera, but it ultimately begins with attention.

Hər il avqustun 19-da qeyd olunan Ümumdünya Fotoqrafiya Günü bizə gündəlik həyatda həmişə gördüyümüz, artıq vərdiş etdiyimiz fotoqrafiya haqqında bir anlıq ayaq saxlayıb düşünmək fürsəti verir.
Bu günün tarixi 1839-cu ildən — Fransa hökumətinin dagerrotip üsulunun hüquqlarını alaraq onu bütün dünyaya pulsuz bəxş etdiyi vaxtdan başlayır. Aradan keçən iki əsrə yaxın müddətdə fotoqrafiya gümüş örtüklü mis lövhələrdən rəqəmsal sensorlara və cibimizdəki kameralara qədər böyük yol qət edib. Təsirli bir fotoşəkil insan, məkan və ya an haqqında təkbaşına sözlərin ifadə edə bilmədiyi məqamları üzə çıxara bilir. O, yaddaşı qoruyur, uzaq təcrübələri bir-birinə bağlayır və bizi dünyaya başqasının gözü ilə baxmağa dəvət edir.
Fotoqrafika olaraq bizi tək bir kadrın hüdudlarından kənarda baş verənlər — fotoşəkillərin necə bir araya gələrək silsilə, bütöv layihələr və vizual hekayələr yaratması maraqlandırır. Biz inanırıq ki, fotoqrafiya yalnız təsvir yaratmaqdan ibarət deyil; o, həm də görməyi öyrənməkdir.
